Dear Little One,
For quite a while, I have been thinking of writing something about my young life. One reason is to share with you my life as I remember it. The second reason and perhaps the most important: is that maybe after reading my story you will find a clue, if there is one, to better understand why I did things that may have hurt you as you were growing up at home and if you do then maybe you will forgive.
My own growing up was not easy, I knew what it was to go hungry and have nothing. We as a family lived "without" all my young life. Now as I spend my last years and look back I see I was not the father I should have been, my goal was providing for my family, I spent too much of my time working, hoping to provide well so my family wouldn't have to go without as we did when I was growing up. When your mother and I married we began to have a family quite soon and working hard was what I felt was the right thing for me to do.
And so his letter goes and with the letter came pages of notes and stories of his life...
This story will take you on a trip through the Americana of the past, Born in 1909 he leaves his family home in Fall River Massachusetts at age 16 to find work in the Big Apple, New York City. Join him in his travels across the U. S., by thumb, car, foot and boxcar. See the America of the deep depression, prohibition and the W.P.A. and much more.
Experience his life from his early childhood to his marriage and children, the joys, and the sorrows. It's a great read!
